FOREING CITIZENS ( not EEA )

Generally, foreign citizens that wish to entry or to stay in the Schengen Space must remember that:

- the possibility to circulate and stay in the Schengen Space is indicated on the visa (validity period and expiry date);

-within 8 days from the date of entry in Italy, the foreign citizen must inform the Police Station of the area in which he is staying of his presence in order to receive the residence permit (Permesso di Soggiorno);

- with the exception of specific limitations, the residence permit (Permesso di Soggiorno)released by the Italian Authority for Public Security (State Police) gives the possibility to foreign citizen to move freely, with a passport, within the territory of the Schengen States, for a maximum of 90 days each 6 months (this possibility shall be indicated on the visa).

- within 3 days of his entry in the territory of any other Schengen State, the foreign citizen must inform the competent police authority of that country of his presence.

According to Art. 5 of the Schengen Agreement, the entry in Italy of foreign citizens is bound to the following conditions:

1. arrival through a frontier;
2. carrying of a valid passport (or of a different official identity document);
3. carrying of documents which justify the purpose of the entry; staying conditions; the availability of financial means sufficient for the nature and length of the planned stay and for the return to the country of origin, or for transit towards a third State;
4. carrying of a valid entry or transit visa.
