Regional governments in Italy play an active role in the field
of research and technological development. On one hand, they
provide their own funds and, on the other, they administer the
funds of the European Community, the so called 'Structural
Funds"
The task of the Structural Funds is in general to foster
the development of the regions through economic contributions
that are relatively modest but ones that are often indispensable
for the growth and development of companies, research centres,
and universities.
The two strategic documents PON
and POR
indicate the regional priorities and report the pluriannual
actions that will be carry out at local level in accordance
with the Commission.
