VISA, ENTRY AND RESIDENT PERMITS, WORK PERMITS FOR NON-EU RESEARCHERS
Which are the entry requirements for EU researchers intending to stay in Italy?
EU citizens are required to possess a valid ID card or passport. Researchers wishing to stay in Italy for more than three months must apply for a “Carta di Soggiorno”, to be issued by the local Italian Police Office or by the Immigration office; this document is regarded as compulsory for EU citizens that intend to stay in Italy for more than three months and/or intend to have a contract of work or study.
Furthermore, the application for the “Carta di soggiorno” is regarded as compulsory in order to obtain some social security benefits, i.e. to register within the Italian National Health Service (SSN)..
